Does ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’ Hold Up After 29 Years?
2 min read
Gremlins 2: The New Batch was released on June 15, 1990 – 29 years ago tomorrow. So we ask ourselves, how does this sequel hold after nearly 30 years? But, the real question we need to ask is was this movie any good to begin with?
The short answer to the first question is, yes, it held up okay after 30 years, but that’s only because it wasn’t that great to begin with.
Despite Hulk Hogan’s beliefs in this clip most of us would actually rather watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs than continue with this film.
In Gremlins 2, Billy, Kate, Gizmo and…Mr. Futterman are back once again to save the day from Gremlins gone wild. This time they are in none other than New York City for their crazy adventure. The sequel rehashes essentially the same exact story-line as the original, but in a new, ultra-modern location. Below I list what the movie has and lacks.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch has:
- Familiar faces
- An almost identical story-line to the original
- A whole lot of Gremlins
- Excessive violence
- A musical number
- A lackluster ending
- Hulk Hogan?
- A vampire news anchor
Gremlins 2: The New Batch lacks:
- Comedy
- Originality
- The charm of the original
- The moral value that the original conveys (although they try)
- The all-around fun entertainment of the first
The Final Say:
I think the reviewer in the clip below that is reviewing the first Gremlins movie during Gremlins 2 sums up my thoughts about the movie perfectly. What did you think of the sequel? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
Yeah, but it had Rambo Gizmo!
